Education  must serve human purposes  Education is a creation of sound mind in a
sound body Education must help individuals recall the truths or ideas that
present in latent form in their minds.People  ought to live
share and work together to solve common problems. Education must help an
individual to lead total life. It encompasses in itself the all round
development of an individual. India’s high
education system is third largest in the world after China and USA Engineering
education is the activity of teaching knowledge and principles to the
professional practice of engineering Anna University is one of the top
universities in India. Engineering
in Tamil Nadu is regulated by Anna University, a state university formed in
1978 in the city of Chennai. and it  is one of the top universities in India All engineering colleges in the state
whether government or self-financing are affiliated to the university There are nearly 600 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu
affiliated to Anna University of which most of them are self financing
institutions..The governing body responsible for the
oversight of Engineering education in the country is the All India Council for
Technical Education (AICTE)

There is a need  for self financed institutions to provide
quality students in turn depends on quality faculty and other facilities
provided by them There is no doubt that quantitative growth of engineering
education in India has increased the opportunities for engineering aspirants
and has contributed to nation’s growth. But the maintenance of quality has
become the victim of this growth phenomenon. Lack of maintenance of standards
in institutions and failure to monitor the same by the regulating bodies is the
main factor responsible for this scenario in the country . The characteristics
of the self fianancing engineering colleges should be examined in terms of
size, compostion of faculty at different levels and qualifications,
infrastructure, procedures and
functioning of regulatory authorities

The institutional climate is the
prevailing condition that reflects an institutions overall character or tone.
The climate within an institution is a function of both its internal
environment and its reaction to external environment. The institutional climate
affects and its affected by faculty attitudes, motivations and work related
behaviours. Perceptions of individual can be aggregated and collected for
analysis at the team or group level, functional level divisional level or
overall institutional level. . Institutional Climate studies the employees’
perceptions and perspectives of an organization. The surveys address attitudes
and concerns that help the organization work with employees to instill positive
changes. Institutional climate surveys increase productivity. Institutional
climatic surveys give faculty a voice to assist in making desired transitions as
easy as possible. It also serves as a basis for quality improvements. The
institutional climate or climate of an educational institution is basic
requirement of an educational institution and is the basis of health of a  collegeThe cause is that the smooth
functioning of an educational institution depends on the maintenance of
discipline and co-ordination among the different persons such as head of the
educational institution, teachers, students and other staff of the educational
institution

The climate is the process while health is its
end product which is also the result of growth and development of an
institution. There are many different types of climates that can be produced by
the culture of an organization and they can be grouped in many different ways.
One way to categorize the different types of organizational climates is
climates that are people-oriented, rule-oriented, innovation-oriented and
goal-oriented.

With knowledge-based economy in a
globalization-governed world, engineering educational institutions own the
responsibility of producing qualified and competent graduates who are expected
to be the multi-tasking professionals who should be equipped with a long list
of hard (technical) as well as soft (professional) skills The best system of
education may fail to achieve the desire ends in the absence of sincere,
competent and professionally aware faculty.They
create new knowledge ,promote innovation ,critically appraises the past  and its tradition and culture.Faculty
perception is mostly subjective assessments based on actual experiences in the
work. The building block of faculty perceptions are the moments of truth
through interaction with the institution. Perception is always considered
relative to expectations. Expectations of faculty are the reference points for
performance in terms of what they believe or will happen, Satisfaction is based
on faculty perception of service provided by climatic conditions inside the
institution. The motive  of this study is
to encourage excellence in self financing engineering colleges. Therefore, to
be a global player, the production of knowledge cannot be expected to be done
within the walls of educational institutions alone but within the context of
joint platform and shared responsibilities of both “Academia” and “Industry”.
As learning by doing is essential the partnership between industry and academia
becomes an urgent need for grooming our young engineering graduates by the way
of maintaining best environment for the faculty members. Moreover, our engineering
faculty will need to be trained in
different contents and instrumental methods in order to meet the challenges of
globalization
