Renewable energy is the future of the world
and will replace Fossil Fuels. “Renewable energy is energy that is collected
from renewable resources, which are naturally replenished on a human timescale,
such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat”(Science Daily)
. The reasons behind the drastic change is that it will reduce pollution,
become more efficient, and slow down the warming of the Earth’s climate.

The United States is taking action to bring
back the coal and oil industry, and it is discouraging to the people dreaming
of a sustainable energy future. According to Elon Musk CEO of Tesla, solar
energy makes the most sense for large-scale deployment. “If you wanted to power
the entire United States with solar panels, it would take a fairly small corner
of Nevada, Texas or Utah; you would only need to acquire about 100×100 miles of
solar panels to power the entire United States. The batteries you need to store
the energy, that could provide a 24/7 power supply, is 1 square mile.”(Tesla
CEO Elon Musk) Right now less than 15% of the country runs on renewable energy.
But with Musk’s plan the number could rise to as much as 100%. His plan to go
100% Renewable energy includes combining rooftop solar panels that are at a
utility scale. During the transition we could use the assistance of the power
from wind, hydro, geothermal and nuclear energy that are already in use as we
make the adjustment.

Generating electricity from renewable energy
can reduce the air and water pollution emitted by coal and natural gas plants
which are linked to serious problems such as Cancer or Heart Disease. Replacing
fossil fuels with renewable energy has been found to reduce premature death,
and it reduces overall healthcare costs. The national economic impact associated
with these health issues and conflicts of fossil fuels costs between $350 and
$900 billion. Wind, solar, and water electrical systems generate electricity
with no associated air pollution. While geothermal and biomass energy systems
emit very low air pollutants, but comparing total air emissions geothermal and biomass
are generally much lower than those of coal and gas power plants.

Wind and solar energy require essentially no
water to operate so they do not pollute water resources or strain the supply. For
example, the cultivating of non renewable recourses can pollute sources of
water. Fracking which” is the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into
subterranean rocks, and boreholes to force open existing fissures to extract
oil or gas” (Water Fracking)  which requires
large amounts of water and all thermal power plants, including those powered by
coal, gas, and oil, withdraw and consume water to cool there systems.

Renewable energy that is a vast and
inexhaustible resource throughout the United States, from powerful winds, bright
skies, plants, to heat from the earth’s core, and fast-moving water can each
provide a vast and replenishable energy resource supply. These diverse sources
of renewable energy have potential to provide all the electricity the nation
needs many times over.

Some reasons that non renewable energy is
better than renewable is that Fossil fuels, such as oil and gas are very
plentiful in Australia so this means they are a relatively cheap fuel and
always available for the time being . But Australia has enough fossil fuel
resources to last for hundreds of years. Also very large amounts of electricity
can be generated from fossil fuels, and the very alarming rate of death of
birds from use of Wind Turbines averaging from 200,000-350,000 deaths a year annually.

Many people including myself believe that
renewable energy is the future and that it will help reduce the amount of
pollution we create and help the ecosystem continue to sustain life by not
wasting valuable recourses when we could create something just as good if not
better for less of a cost on the Earth . In the near future I believe people
who have more of a power like Elon Musk can create more practical and
affordable ways to use renewable resources so that even 3rd world
countries could achieve it in a short period of time.
